Bolton One Wellbeing Centre

Bolton One Wellbeing Centre is designed to reflect its civic importance and leverage its leading edge approach to the provision of multiple services under one roof. The building serves the needs of three organisations; the NHS, Bolton Council and the University of Bolton. The design strategy developed by IBI acknowledges the individual corporate identity of each organisation, but brings these together as part of a unified solution applied across the building.

IBI Group also led the development and implementation of an arts strategy reflecting the nature of the building and its users as well as its civic importance, including specially commissioned art installations by artists Nicole Heidtke and Stefan Baumberger, and artwork from the University’s public art course.

The goal of the project was to create a shared facility that would serve three client groups, enabling direct integration of services while promoting an inclusive and sustainable facility. Each group is allocated its own identifiable spaces within the building but these are interlinked to enable the sharing of facilities and access.

In use, the building functions as a “one-stop-shop”, catering for a range of needs, but is also a major landmark in the regeneration of Bolton Town Centre.
